Cathedral of St. John the Baptist
For Memorial Day weekend we traveled to Savannah, Georgia for a short vacation. It was such a nice vacation and Savannah is the most gorgeous southern town I have seen in the south so far. Everything is so charming and so well designed and laid out. It was nice to get away and have some relaxing time!
The park in the first picture is so beautiful. It is the most well known park in Savannah due to it's fountain pictured. There was a rally going on that day so we didn't stay long due to the loud noises. But nevertheless, it was quite a gorgeous park to see.
The colonial park cemetery is the first place we stopped at. It is a cemetery dedicated to all the soldiers and families who lost their lives during the revolutionary war. I thought this was such an great concept because we don't see that often today.
We then stopped at the Owens- Thomas House. The house was designed by William Jay of Bath (England). It was first occupied and bought for 10 grand by George Owens in 1830. They were the most wealthiest family of Savannah at that time. We could not take pictures inside so I do apologize. The architecture resembled the English Regency period- it was very beautiful! Did you also know that the Marquis De Lafayette also stayed at this house?
The last stop was the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. They are currently doing renovations to the outside so I didn't take a picture of that. But inside was the true gem. I have not seen any church like it in the United States as of today. It was breathtaking. So peaceful and well designed. They also hold mass here, imagine going to mass in a church like this?
Day one is just the beginning. Tomorrow I will bring you to the Bonaventure cemetery (where they filmed Midnight In the Garden of Good and Evil!).
Hope you enjoyed these photos!
